The DONUT TRAIN

Join us April 6th, May 4th, June 15th, and July 20th for a fun, unique breakfast experience on board one of our restored Illinois Central dining cars. As a passenger, you will be able to enjoy a selection of delicious donuts from Industrial Donut at your table, along with your choice of additional breakfast items such as fresh fruits and yogurt. An assortment of drinks and juices will be available for your choosing as well, all while riding along our former Illinois Central trackage. All food and beverages are included in the price of your ticket! This special train will depart from the Nelson’s Crossing Depot with departures each day at 8:30 AM and 10 AM.

Deluxe Private Car - Looking for a unique experience to ride the rails like a railroad baron? You can enjoy an exclusive experience aboard Illinois Central Business Car #7! This car features an 8-seat dining table and a 12-seat lounge with a fantastic view out the end of the train. This car will be sold as a table seating 8 for $350.

There are two classes of service available for this event!

Historic Dining Car - Enjoy your donuts in the jovial atmosphere of an historic railroad dining car! Each table will receive a box of one dozen of Industrial Donut's finest assortment of donuts to enjoy during the approximately one hour long train ride. Pricing for The Donut Train is $95 for a table seating up to four passengers, all ages included. Tickets for this event will be sold as a table seating four in one of our restored dining cars. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the event and historic equipment, no single seats will be available.


Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are reservations required?

Reservations are required for The Donut Train.  Trains typically sell out months in advance.

Is The Donut Train ADA accessible?

Yes, the dining cars are handicap accessible.  Please email tickets@mrym.org to request handicap seating. 

Are we allowed off the train during the trip?

Yes.  The Donut Train will make a stop at the Wabash depot in Monticello.

Are restrooms available on the train?

It is recommended that you use the depot restrooms prior to your trip.  Restrooms are available at the Wabash depot.

Are the cars air conditioned or heated?

Yes, the dining cars are climate controlled.

Is seating assigned?

The Donut Train utilizes assigned seating.  Please email tickets@mrym.org if you would like your table to be near a specific party.  Requests to be seated near a specific party must be made one week prior to your scheduled trip.

Are individual tickets available?

No.  Donut Train tickets are sold as a table that seats 4 people.

What if inclement weather is predicted?

The Donut Train will operate rain, snow, or shine. 

Will my tickets be mailed?

No.  Donut Train tickets can be picked up at the Nelson Crossing depot ticket office.

How long is the train ride?

The Donut Train excursions are approximately one hour in length.

What will pull The Donut Train?

One of our historic diesel locomotives will pull the train.
